Zelino Park preserves the estate history of old Zalino. Archival records from 1918 document the estate of E. I. Zhukova and M. I. Pleskovskaya here, while state records describe Zelino Park itself as an estate and park of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its history is being recovered through archival files, maps and the surviving landscape.

1918. The archive restores the owners’ names
On 5 October 1918, a questionnaire was compiled for the estate of E. I. Zhukova and M. I. Pleskovskaya in Zalino. The archival entry identifies it as “Zalino (dachas)”.
The name Evgenia Ivanovna Zhukova is legible on the sheet, alongside M. I. Pleskovskaya and Praskovinskaya volost.
The document records an estate complex. Its buildings include a two-storey house with 12 rooms downstairs and 8 upstairs.

Noble estates
Zalino was a place of estates
Zalino’s estate history predates the records of 1918. A. V. Shitkov’s study describes two estates about 100 metres apart, belonging to branches of the Kaznakov family. The later owners named include Alexey Gennadyevich Kaznakov and Konstantin Ivanovich Khokhlov.
Zelino Park belongs to a wider historic estate landscape. Research is recovering the properties and their precise locations, retaining the names in different sources without treating every estate as a single property.

Researching the estate landscape

The candle works remains the central focus of Zelino 1893. The neighbouring historic park adds another layer to its story. Our goal is to support careful conservation and restoration of the estate landscape and its natural, historical and recreational value.
The research foundation is now taking shape: archives, future ecological surveys and comparison of maps. This does not announce physical works or an approved estate reconstruction.

Where the estate was located
The historic boundaries are being recovered.
Comparing archival plans, the present landscape and the protected-area boundaries should establish the locations of the house, garden, avenues and outbuildings. Each feature will have its own source.
The present natural-monument boundary is not treated as the historic estate boundary.
